Airbrush Body Art

There are many different specialties under the broad category of airbrush art and airbrush body art can be one of the most exciting and challenging of all. Artists need a number of skills to be successful in this special area.

In one sense, airbrush body art takes the idea of body tattoos to a whole new level. Rather than focusing on smaller images in select areas, many airbrush artists use the entire human body and/or its separate parts to create unique appearances for models and customers. Improved techniques and materials have allowed artists to paint human models so that they appear to be wearing clothing but are actually wearing only airbrush body art paint!

High-quality airbrush equipment is usually required to achieve the best results in airbrush body art. Artists sometimes use small, manual touch-up brushes to finish an intricate design. The paint is temporary and may only last a few hours. But with some types of paint the art may last several weeks. Body paints are water-based to avoid problems with allergic reactions to chemicals in other types of paint.

Some of the requirements for quality airbrush body art are:

  • Very rich pigmentation for eye-popping color
  • Quality equipment to ensure clean, sharp application
  • Smooth, well-prepared skin for best artistic results

There are independent artists who have moved from airbrush art of another kind to focus on airbrush body art. There are artists who started in airbrush body art and perfected their craft by focusing on this field. The leading artists do much more than airbrush tattoos, though this is one segment of the airbrush body art field.

Several companies supply adhesive stencils and non-adhesive stencils for airbrush body art, though some professionals work freehand, make their own stencils or combine the two to produce some images.
