Airbrush Nails
Doing airbrush nails is a specialty within the larger category of airbrush art. There are really just a few basic steps for this method of decorating airbrush nails. After you have chosen a stencil from your local nail salon or supplier (that’s step 1) you are ready to start making the airbrush nails stand out. Stencils are available in an amazing array of styles and images.
The second step involves applying a base coat or background, if that is your desire or if this is what your customers want. If you have never worked with airbrush art before you might want to practice a few times. You can do airbrush nails on a friend or two, or you can practice on a “fake” finger that is usually available from salon suppliers.
Place the stencil carefully and use acetone to clean the color that is outside the design area. Finally, protect your airbrush nails work with a cover coating and let it get completely dry.
The Kit
A few suppliers offer complete kits for airbrush nails art. These include compressor, tubing, hand unit/gun and a good stock of starter supplies. Make sure you get a nail-art guide and video with your kit. The top line oil-less compressor with extra features may be included in the higher-priced airbrush nails kits.
As you look for the right equipment for airbrushing your own airbrush nails or those of friends, or if you are looking for equipment that will be used in a new business, consider the airbrush gun to be the most important tool you will have. This must be comfortable in the hand and easy to control. Doing airbrush nails doesn’t require a large amount of “paint” so you should be able to use one of the better guns that have the supply cup on the top.
Have patience when you start doing airbrush nails. This requires focus and attention to detail, as well as creativity in choosing designs.
